New political party launched

Imphal, September 24 2026: Eyeing to contest in 40 Assembly Constituencies in the valley districts of Manipur in the upcoming State Assembly elections, a regional political party named the People's Reformation Party (PRP) was launched today.

During the launch function held at Hotel Imphal, North AOC, the PRP also released its manifesto for its first five-year term from 2027 to 2032 .

Addressing the function, PRP president Andy Mangsatabam said that the regional party was formed on the principles of peace, progress, prosperity and working together for Manipur.

He said the PRP is recognised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) .

Saying that the party would field candidates who are committed to working sincerely for the welfare of the State in the upcoming State Legislative Assembly elections, he expressed confidence that the party would perform well in the elections.

He also said that the PRP would fight against corruption and contest the election in a fair and transparent manner.

He further stated that the PRP takes the ongoing crisis very seriously and would do its best to restore peace and normalcy in the State.

Andy added that the Government needs to enforce law and order and work towards finding a credible solution to the crisis.

Claiming that normalcy cannot be restored in Manipur as long as a National political party is in power in the State, he appealed to the people not to have faith in parties which are unable to function independently and have to look to their high command for every issue.

Andy said that the PRP would field only individuals who have never contested elections before but genuinely want to serve the people as its candidates in the upcoming election.

Manipur has to be saved by Manipuris alone, he said.

In response to a media query, Andy said that the PRP is different from other regional parties as it would not indulge in corruption and would contest the election without relying on money power.

Saying that the PRP would not enter into any pre-poll alliance with any political party, he added that the party would sit in the Opposition if it fails to win at least 31 seats in the elections.

The PRP manifesto outlines its priorities, including working for peace and public order, safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur, promoting a gun-free Manipur, improving healthcare and social well-being, ensuring women's safety and promoting the well-being of youth, among others.

The programme was also attended by PRP vice-president Tayenjam Bijoykumar, former Chief Engineer of the Electricity Department, and general secretary Rajkumar Athoiba, among others.
