Imphal, June 24 2025:
A Person Living With HIV (PLWHIV) has criticized a promotional video made by Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) for the National AIDS and STD Control Programme (NASCP), claiming it gives a wrong impression about Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) .
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, Haobam Nanao, a person who has been on ART for 25 years, said that he saw the promotional video purportedly made by the IEC Division of MACS on June 13 while watching a local cable TV channel.
Saying that the advertisement encourages people living with HIV/AIDS to take ART without fail, he emphasized that ART is a therapy, not a medicine.
Nanao said that the correct wording should be either "go on ART" or "take Antiretroviral (ARV) medicines," rather than "take ART" .
Mentioning that he discussed the issue with MACS officials, including the Deputy Director of the IEC Division, he claimed that the Deputy Director acknowledged the feedback positively but stated that correcting the mistake would take some time.
Nanao said that changing the mistake wouldn't be difficult, it's just a matter of editing, emphasising the importance for the promotional video to convey correct information about ART .
