Imphal, November 23 2024:
The relay hunger strike launched by Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup at Uripok Canteen Crossing demanding justice for the six women and children who were killed by Kuki terrorists in Jiribam, has completed eight days today.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, UAL publicity secretary Chingthangamba said that a complaint has been filed at the Imphal Police Station against Saikot AC MLA Paolienlal Haokip for the controversial statement he gave on the recent killing of six innocent women & children in Jiribam district by Kuki militants.
Chingthanganba said that in an interview with the online news platform The Wire, Paolienlal Haokip described the killing of six innocent civilians including an 8-months-old infant as a retaliatory act for the murder of a 31-year-old Hmar woman in the district on November 7 .
"It was shocking to witness a Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly will openly support terrorists and justify cold blooded murder of women and children", said Chingthanganba while adding that the conduct of Paolienlal Haokip was unbecoming of a MLA.
He also asserted that the relay hunger striked launched by Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup will continue till the perpetrators are arrested and befitting punishment is awarded as per the law.
Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup president Potshangbam Ongbi Joyshree said that a memorandum has also been submitted to the MCPCR and MSCW to conduct spot verification and investigate the killings of six women & children in Jiribam.
She cautioned that if MCPCR and MSCW fail to take necessary action within 15 days, the Lup will seek legal help from the Court.
