Ukhrul, November 23 2013 :
Five years after the laying of foundation stone by none other than the Chief Minister, O Ibobi, Polytechnic College at Hongva Choithar, Ukhrul seems a distant dream.
The proposed Polytechnic College site has of late become a garbage dumping site.
It is covered with thick bushes.
The granite plate of the foundation stone has been damaged by outraged locals, who feel being neglected by the concerned authority.
The foundation stone for the proposed college, touted to be the first such college in the district, was laid on Feb 10, 2010 by the Chief Minister.
After five good years, the project has become a mockery of the town.
The Choithar village has donated more that 10 acres of land for construction of District jail at Hongva in 1981.Later, the area was abandoned once for all.
After 25 years, the State Government has promised to use the site for construction of a Polytechnic College.
The only institutes for higher learning in the district are Pettigrew College and ITI.
The two institutes were also in pathetic condition.
The District Administration has repeatedly reminded the concerned authority to speed up the work.
The Commissioner of Higher Education and Principal Secretary (Technical Education) have been urged to materialise the project.
However, nothing tangible has been taken up so far.
