Ukhrul, July 23 2025:
The Ukhrul District Village Defence Force (VDF) Welfare Association has extended its full support to the proposed indefinite gun down and pen down strike called by the Central Committee of the All Manipur VDF Welfare Association.
The strike is scheduled to begin on August 1, 2025, if the Government fails to address the long-pending grievances of VDF personnel by July 31, 2025 .
In a press release issued today, the Ukhrul District VDF Welfare Association stated that the members would actively participate in the statewide protest movement.
The Association accused the State Government of failing to take any concrete steps despite a meeting held on May 17, 2025, where it had committed to resolve major VDF-related issues within two months.
"The Government has not shown any progress or initiative during the assured timeframe.
This neglect has only fueled dissatisfaction and unrest among VDF personnel across the State," the statement read.
Among the key demands raised by the VDF personnel are the implementation of Section 18 of the Police Act, 1861; regularization of their service and an increase in the monthly pay structure.
The Association reiterated that the association stands in solidarity with the Central Committee's collective decision and is fully committed to extend support in the proposed indefinite strike movement in pursuit of justice and rightful recognition of VDF personnel.
