Imphal, April 23 2026:
Sanjoy Sorokhaibam, president of the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), has called on the people of Manipur to unite and remain steadfast in order to emerge victorious in the ongoing people's movement.
Today, several individuals, including leaders of various civil society organisations, paid floral tributes at the Martyr Memorial Complex at Thangmeiband Cheiraoching, in observance of Khongjom Day.
Addressing the gathering, Sanjoy emphasised that Manipur, with a history spanning thousands of years, continues to exist because of the love for the motherland and the bravery displayed by "our ancestors" in defending the sovereignty of the erstwhile kingdom against all forces that sought to undermine it.
He urged every Manipuri to remember the patriotism of 'our ancestors' and carry forward their legacy to fulfill their aspiration for sovereignty.
Manipur is the land of sons and daughters who displayed unwavering spirit in the face of adversity, fought against the mighty British, and laid down their lives to protect 'our motherland, he said.
Manipur, however, has been engulfed in chaos after the merger with India, he claimed.
He also alleged that India has been undermining the democratic rights of the Manipuri people by imposing various draconian laws and appealed to the people to stand united in the face of these challenges.
Saying that many individuals who participated in democratic protests are being arrested under various Acts, he accused the Government of attempting to suppress the voice of the people.
He claimed that the Government has been extending various forms of support to the Kuki narco-terrorists.
