Imphal, January 23 2026:
Moirangthem Tombi, president of the Shiv Sena Manipur unit, has stated that dividing Manipur's land into "Kuki area," "Meitei area," and "Naga area" would be highly problematic.
Speaking to the media at Babupara today, he emphasised that safeguarding the State's territorial integrity should not rest solely on the shoulders of the Meitei community.
Despite being regarded as the majority community in Manipur, the Meitei population is facing a decline, he said.
Expressing concern over the growing trend of exclusive land ownership interests among different communities in Manipur, he stated that such ideas should not be encouraged.
The indigenous communities of Manipur must work together to safeguard Manipur as their motherland, he said.
Meanwhile, Tombi appealed to all elected representatives to refrain from pursuing personal ambitions for power.
There is disunity, especially among the Meitei BJP MLAs in the State and it is hindering the formation of a popular Government, he claimed.
He said that the murder of a Meitei man from Kakching Khunou in cold blood on the Statehood Day of Manipur (January) by armed Kukis was an act of terrorism.
Condemning the murder, he urged the President's Rule administration to arrest all individuals involved in the heinous crime within 10 days.
He also urged the Government to launch a military crackdown on the armed Kuki groups.
The Kuki groups acquired sophisticated weapons through the proceeds of the drug trade, he said and stressed the need to control them to prevent further escalation of the crisis in Manipur.
