Naga Students Federation prepares to fight back door appointments

Kohima, October 22 2019: The Naga Students Federation (NSF) is all set to fight against the rampant back door appointments at various government departments in Nagaland.

A statement by the media cell of NSF sad that The Naga Students Federation as the conscience keeper of the Naga Students and youth has taken it upon our shoulder to fight against this ever pervasive malaise and reign in the better days for the Naga students and youth.

The NSF (hereinafter 'the Federation', in this noble pursuit submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphui Rio on 11th June 2019 urging his government to set up a committee which will work out the modalities for setting-up of Staff Selection Board (SSB) in the state within two months time.

"Rampant practices of back-door appointments and other undesirable practices been adopted by those in the seat of power during the recruitment process to various government jobs threatens to throw the future of the educated Naga youths in the state of Nagaland into disarray.

Meritocracy has been living its dark days in the state, counting very little of the efforts and sacrifices been made by the students to secure a future for themselves and the society at large.

This situation needs to be remedied without further delay lest posterity holds us accountable for having done little or nothing to right this monstrous wrong", the statement said.

The NSF also issue and ultimatum to the government of Nagaland on August 21, 2019 with the following charter of demands which were in addition to the federation's long pending demand for setting up of SSB: 1) Issue notification banning all recruitment to 'group c' posts until the implementation of SSB in the state.

2) Issue notification for scrapping down of all departmental exams for recruitment to 'Group C' posts.

3) Setting up of SSB and that all existing vacancies be filled through open recruitment.

The federation's draft policy and modalities in tune with the already implemented states was also submitted to the government for ready reference and implementation thereafter.

The Federation, appealed to the government to comply to these demands within a period of 1 (one) month.

The representation also clearly stated that the NSF shall be compelled to take up befitting actions in the interest of the students community had the government chose to refrain from taking up the issue in earnest.

"More than a month had elapsed since that ultimatum was placed before the authority concern for their consideration and positive action thereafter.

However, the Federation regrets to inform each one of you that we've not been able to make much headway in our pursuit as the state government has not been forthcoming to hammer out a solution in tune with the aspirations of the Naga students and youths", it added.

This uneasy impasse created by the failure of the state government to heed to the collective desire of the Naga youths and students has now compelled the Federation to register our resentment against the state government through a series of democratic mass based protest.

The NSF says details of the protest shall be made public in days to come.

The NSF appealed to all the right thinking Naga citizens to come forward and lend your support towards the federation as we take forth our fight against the evils within the government set-up which has been responsible for obscuring the future and spoiling the lives of countless students and youths.

The federation also appealed to all youths to take ownership of righteous cause and be relentless in our collective pursuit to tell the state government that the Naga youths and students shall no longer accept practices that are responsible for the stunted growth of our Naga society.

The Federation shall not waiver until the desired result is achieved and we appeal to each one of you to walk together with us throughout this journey.
