'Biren did not work in line with people's pulse'
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, February 22 2025: NPP Legislature leader and the party's State unit working president Sheikh Noorul Hassan has stated that ex-Chief Minister N Biren did not work in line with the people's pulse and he presented President's Rule to the people of the State by stepping down from the post of Chief Minister without consulting anyone.

An open gym cum public park was opened today at Naorem Chaprou by MLAs Khuraijam Loken, Tongbram Robindro, Janghemlung Panmei and Sheikh Noorul Hassan.

The open gym cum public park was constructed at the initiative of Khuraijam Loken.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Sheikh Noorul Hassan said that there will be peace and development in Manipur only when there is a Government formed by legislators who are far-sighted and espouse the principle of peaceful co-existence.

As a result of the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023, Manipur is now witnessing a very restive situation.

Ex-Chief Minister N Biren could not formulate any policy which could bring peace and normalcy in the State.

As a result, the State Assembly has been put under suspended animation, he said.

Sheikh Noorul Hassan said that all the indigenous people of the State need to stand united in order to safeguard the territorial and administrative integrity of Manipur.

Administering a State is easier said than done.

If the leader is not far-sighted, there will be flaws and lapses in governance and it can lead to conflicts, he said.

Speaking on ex-Chief Minister N Biren's failure to chart out a roadmap to bring peace and normalcy in the State, Sheikh Noorul Hassan questioned as to why Biren never made any effort to bring the two communities to a negotiating table.

Although it is late, it is essential to take a concrete step in order to ensure peace in the future, he said.

"We will work to form a Government run by people's representatives who believe that there is no purpose of life when Manipur ceases to exist", Sheikh Noorul Hassan said.

He then called upon all sections of the society to take up confidence building measures in order to bridge the trust deficit and bring peace in the State.

Khuraijam Loken said that a public leader should have the aptitude to work together with the masses.

If a leader cannot work together with the masses, he/she will not have a single follower, Loken said.

If one is a Chief Minister, he/she should have the aptitude to work together with all the other 59 legislators, he continued.

Taking serious note of the political uncertainty witnessed in the State, all the ruling MLAs have been working to elect a new leader, Loken said.

Tongbram Robindro said that the village volunteers came into being on account of the abject failure of the State Government and the Central Government to control the violence in time.

The communal conflict seen today in Manipur could have been averted had the leader been competent enough, Tongbram Robindro said.

Saying that he is still unable to replace a single GI sheet of his roof even after being elected as the MLA of Thanga AC for two terms, he questioned the source of income of those Ministers who have amassed huge assets.

But these Ministers have been speaking like they are the cleanest or most honest individuals, Tongbram Robindro remarked.
