HSE 2026: Toppers beat odds, target teaching, CA, engineering

The Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) declared the Higher Secondary Examination 2026 results on Monday, with toppers from science, commerce, and arts overcoming disruptions in the State.
Arts: Pushpa Eyes Teaching
Pushpa Kakchingtabam of TG Higher Secondary School secured the second position in the arts stream with 456 marks.
She scored letter marks in English, Manipuri, Political Science, Economics, and History.
Daughter of Kakchingtabam Nongyai Sharma and Aribam Rashesori Devi of Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Pushpa said she expected 94% but stored 91.2%."Reaching second position was a pleasant surprise", she said.
She plans to become a teacher, a choice her parents support.
Pushpa noted that the unrest in Manipur poses major challenges for students trying to focus on studies.
"The frequent sound of tear gas shells and the general atmosphere make it incredibly difficult to concentrate.
When the environment is chaotic, it is impossible for a student to focus", she said.
She credited her teachers at TG School, coaching tutors, and her parents and seniors for her success.

Commerce: Keniya Aims for CA
Haorongbam Keniya Chanu, also of TG Higher Secondary School, secured second position in commerce with 433 marks.
She earned letter marks in English, Manipuri, Business Studies, Computer Science, and Economics.
A resident of Matai Mayai Leikai, Keniya is the daughter of Haorongbam Gopal and Haorongbam (O) Kamala.
She credited her consistent study routine, parents, and teachers.
She also attended Commerce Point Coaching Centre, Kangabam Leikai, which she said was instrumental in her success.
Keniya plans to appear for CUET to pursue B.Com and become a Chartered Accountant.
"While I expected to be among the top position holders, securing second rank was a moment of immense pride", she said.
Offering advice to her peers, she emphasized the importance of focus and sincerity.
"If one works with a pure heart and full dedication, success is inevitable", she stated, encouraging future aspirants to remain committed to their dreams.
Science: Taibangnganba Wants to Serve as Engineer
Pebam Taibangnganba of Millennium Institute of Sciences, Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi, secured second position in the science stream of the HSE 2026 with 485 marks.
Son of Pebam Dikson and Pebam (O) Rebita of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel Leikai, Taibangnganba said engineering is his primary goal.
He believes that by entering the technical field, he can contribute effectively to the development and progress of Manipur.
"Education should not be limited to books alone", he said, adding that staying informed about current events and joining diverse activities help broaden perspective.
On the situation in Manipur, he expressed sadness over the unrest since May 3, 2023, noting how it has negatively impacted everyone, especially the student community.
He appealed for peace and normalcy in the State.
