KKL raises pertinent questions

Imphal, May 20 2023: While welcoming the statement given to a delegation of Mizo Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of Mizoram by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi recently that 'it was the Govt of India's duty to create a conducive atmosphere for restoring peace in Manipur", the Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has expressed disappointment over his (Amit Shah) silence on the continued presence in the field of a large number of armed Kuki militants attacking the Meeteis at will.

He has also not clarified as to why none of the 30 odd Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operations (SoO) are banned while all the Meetei armed groups have been declared as "outlawed" or banned groups, said a press release issued by KKL.

The KKL also questioned the inability of Kuldiep Singh, Union Home Minister's Security Advisor in Manipur, to come out with the exact number of Kuki militants missing from SoO camps and the number of arms missing from the designated camps.

He should immediately come with the numbers and have FIRs registered against them and have them arrested immediately, it said.

It then urged the Chief Minister to immediately take up steps to rehabilitate the displaced Meeteis in their original places of dwelling by constructing new houses in places where they had been burnt or repair them in case they are reparable.

It was a grave mistake on the part of the Government of India to enter into Suspension of Operations with Myanmarese origin armed Kuki miscreants, styling themselves under various fancy names, it remarked .

The KKL then urged the Government of India to immediately scrap the SoO and have them declared as outlaw organizations and prosecute them according to the law of the land.

Even after nearly 20 days since trouble broke out in Manipur, essential supplies including life saving drugs have not been able to reach the State.

"How could peace be restored to a starving population?", it asked.

On the law and order front, one Meetei is said to be missing in Moreh and many houses belonging to the Meeteis were burnt today in the Dolaithabi area, it said.

The fact that more than 5000 Meiteis have in the last two weeks applied for arms license points to the fact that the people have lost trust in the State machinery to provide safety and security of life.

It is also believed that Advisor Kuldeep Singh is against arms licenses being issued to the Meeteis in which case he should immediately withdraw his directive or else he would be declared as being anti-Meitei or an enemy of the Meeteis.

No theory of demographic growth can establish and explain the exponential growth of Kukis population in Kangpokpi, Saitu, Saikot, Saikul, Keithelmanbi, Chandel and Churachandpur, it said.

The KKL asked why the rally of May 3 was permitted, the day the Vice-President of India was in Imphal.

All illegal Kuki immigrants in Manipur, whether armed or otherwise, should immediately be de-franchised so that they cannot vote in the elections in Manipur, it demanded.
