Ukhrul, December 19 2008:
After overcoming various obstacles, at long last the 1st phase of work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Ukhrul has been completed recently.
Although the State Government has given its nod to the implementation of the scheme long ago, the same could not be accomplished in the district headquarters due to difference of opinion among the local authorities concerned.
However, after the Project Officer (PO) of Ukhrul Block took up the initiative in co-operation with the village authority of Hunphun (Ukhrul) and All Hunphun Tang's Chairmen and Secretaries Association (ATCSA) all the differences have been resolved and the 1st phase of the works sanctioned under the scheme completed recently.
Talking to The Sangai Express in this connection, ATCSA president Aquila Zingkhai said though the implementation of the sanctioned works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Hunphun (Ukhrul town) and its adjoining areas has been behind schedule by a couple of months, the 1st phase of the work has been, nonetheless, successfully accomplished in November last.
While informing that SDO Ukhrul Sudan R himself had come down personally to inspect the progress of the work during implementation, Zingkhai conveyed that the people of Ukhrul were very grateful to the DPC, DPO, PO and their subordinate staff for their encouragement and help towards successful implementation of the NREGS programme.
Secretary of ATCSA Mungchan Zimik informed that around 4,300 job card holders have been involved in execution of the sanctioned works in 18 different localities of Hunphun and its adjoining area.
