SHS 2024: Hygiene awareness programme, cleanliness cum tree plantation drive held

Senapati/Kakching, September 19 2024:
In continuation of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024, an awareness programme on promoting cleanliness and hygiene was held today at CEO/ADC Conference Hall, Senapati.
The resource persons of today's programme were Shanngam S, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Senapati, Adahrii Maheo, MCS, CEO/ ADC, Senapati and Nehemiah Rong, Project Economist, DRDA, Senapati.
Addressing the gathering, Adahrii Maheo spoke about Manipur Plastic Policy, 2022 in detail.
Starting from home, a spot should be identified to dispose household wastes.
As use of plastic and plastic pollution has become a major concern for the Government, the use of plastics will be banned in the district HQ from October 2 onwards, he said.
Deliberating on plastic waste management, segregation of waste at source, resource recovery facilities etc, he urged the village chairmen and secretaries to incorporate this waste management agenda during their meeting.
While disposing water bottles, he appealed to the gathering to make use of plastic bottle banks installed at various locations.
Meanwhile, DFO Senapati, Shanngam S, IFS in his presentation spoke on the legal framework for wildlife conservation in India.
He mentioned that Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 has been set up for the protection of various plants and animal species.
Speaking on convergence of schemes- scope of waste management under MGNREGA, Nehemiah Rong, PE, DRDA mentioned four types of convergence which are financial convergence, technical convergence, livelihood convergence and capacity building convergence.
He also highlighted that 260 kinds of work are permissible under NREGS.
In channelling the benefits from MGNREGA, he urged the village leaders to visit the office for further information and go through proper documentation.
He also appealed for identification of local needs in general body meetings and to review their previous work.
This was followed by an active interaction between the resource persons and people attending the programme.
The programme was attended by village chiefs, chairmen and secretaries of the district.
Meanwhile, at Kakching, as part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, Kakching Municipal Council carried out a cleanliness cum tree plantation drive at Kakching Wairi Salam Pukhri Achouba today.
Naorem Sanjitkumar, caretaker chairperson, also participated in the drive along with KMC caretaker Councillor and local people of the area.
