Biren visits injured students ; Govt pressuring Centre to settle MU row: CM

Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the injured students, including student leader Shital Oinam whose left hand got fractured after a truck ran over his hand during a scuffle between students and police last Monday, who are undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity, today.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by the Deputy CM and other Cabinet Ministers, OSD to Chief Minister Sumant Singh and SP of Imphal West Haobijam Jogeshchandra during the visit.
Speaking to media persons, the Chief Minister said that the State Government fully empathise with the Manipur University community.
He said that as per the wish of the MUTA.
MUSU and MUSA, the State Government persuaded the Central Government to form a Committee headed by a retired Chief Justice of a High Court to investigate the allegations against Vice-Chancellor Professor AP Pandey.
If Professor Pandey is found guilty in the investigation, then he will be ousted automatically, he added.
The Chief Minister mentioned that as Manipur University is a Central University, the State Government has certain limitations.
However, the State Government has already taken a decision in the Cabinet over the issue and have been pressuring the Central Government to investigate the matter.
"We also met Governor Dr Najma Heptulla yesterday and apprised the situation," said the Chief Minister and added that the Governor has already informed the President of the country about the gravity of the current situation.
Replying to a query about the Government's action against the police personnel who were responsible for manhandling the student protesters, the Chief Minister said that the video clipping of the incident has been analysed and one Sub-Inspector and a Constable have been put under suspension.
He also mentioned that the medical expenses of the injured students would be borne by the State Government.
He also wished for Speedy recovery of the injured students.
