NWU plans protest demonstrations across districts

Imphal, May 19 2026:
Sit-in protest demonstrations demanding immediate and unconditional release of six abducted Naga men will be held across all districts headquarters of Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, Chandel and Naga-inhabited areas on May 20, the Naga Women's Union has said.
Notably, the six men were taken hostage along with several others from Leilon Vaiphei village near Leimakhong on May 13.While all the other hostages have been released, the whereabouts of the six have remained unknown.
The six men include Dr Rev Manu Thiumai, Pastor; Pastor Kenpibou Chawang; Dilip Thiumai; Kaliwangbou Abonmai; Phenrongwibou Thiumai and Ch Phenrilungbou.
The Naga Women's Union said it strongly condemns the inhuman hostage-taking of the six civilians by Kuki militants.
The planned sit-in protest demonstrations across Naga inhabited areas tomorrow (May 20) will seek immediate and safe release of all hostages, and arrest and prosecution of all individuals and militant groups involved in the hostage-taking.
The NWU urged all its district units, women bodies, civil society organisations, youth bodies, Churches, and the public to participate in the protest demonstrations and make necessary arrangements for the peaceful and successful conduct of the agitation within their respective jurisdictions.
