Imphal, May 19: The 39th biennial State conference of the All India Students' Federation (AISF), Manipur State Council held at Irabot Memorial Hall, Challou-Lamlai concluded yesterday along with adopting various resolutions including demand to stop commercialisation of education and early conduct of the viva-voce test of the candidates who have cleared the written test for the primary and Hindi graduate teachers among others.

The new officer bearers of the AISF Manipur State Council have also been elected during the conference which was underway from May 17 to 18 .

The newly constituted 51-member State Council is led by Kh Inaobi as its president, N Sanahal Singh as vice president, Ng Soviet Meetei as secretary, Kh Inaoba Meetei as joint secretary and N Dhananjoy Singh as treasurer.

Addressing a press conference in this connection with the resolutions adopted during the conference at Irabot Bhavan here today, newly elected president Kh Inaobi observed that mushrooming up of private schools in Manipur is a serious cause of concerned today and how far these schools are conforming to the laid down guidelines is a big question.

So the Manipur Board and Council should find out the matter and de-recognise the private schools which do not conform to the guidelines and stop commercialisation of education.

Side-by side, there is the need to maintain an strict academic calendar in Manipur and appointment required teachers in school and colleges along with developing them in tune with the changing time, he said, while pointing out there is the need to appoint only trained persons to the profession of teaching.

He also stressed on the need for setting up National Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management and Indian Institute of Technology in Manipur.

On other resolutions adopted, Inaobi informed that the conference has also demanded dedication the State Medical College being set up to the people from the academic session of 2008, proper implementation of Mid Day Meal Scheme and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, revival of vocational education upto the Higher Secondary level, taking up special measures to save higher education, upgrading JN Manipur Dance Academy to University level, setting p of more professional colleges in Manipur and holding the viva-voce of the candidates of Primary and Hindi Graduate teachers who have passed the written test conducted in April 2007 .

All these demands would also be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister and other relevant authorities through submission of memorandum, Inaobi said, adding that the student body would launch various agitations to ensure these demands are implemented.
