Imphal, February 19 2020: In a bid to put an end to the turmoil within the Manipur People's Party, its interim-president, L Krishnadas on Wednesday appealed all members of the party to shed their differences and work towards common goals.

Denying that the party is splitting, L Krishnadas, during a press meet, asserted that those going out (of MPP) should not tarnish the image of the party.

"MPP was a strong party which had formed the Government.

Even though the party went through some rough patches for some years, there is no crisis within the party and it is not splitting," he said charging 'some vested interest persons' for the 'unrest' within the party.

Expressing that those who have genuine love for the party would never tarnish the party's image, Krishnadas then launched a sharp attack on O Jugindro.

"The party's central committee had recently removed O Jugindro from his post (president) on ground of misappropriation of party funds.

He is not someone who loves the party," he said condemning O Jugindro for allegedly naming a member of the party in connection with the recent bomb (hand grenade) incident.

It may be noted that a hand grenade was found at the gate of O Jugindro's residence on February 15 .

"MPP was eagerly waiting for groups/UGs concerned to claim responsibility for the grenade incident.

As none claimed responsibility, MPP had advised all members not to point fingers and escalate the situation," he added.

MPP working president, M Amutombi, who was present at the press meet, also reiterated that O Jugindro was removed as president on the charge of misappropriation of party funds and added he (O Jugindro) should accept the penalty he has been given by the party's central committee.

"When O Jugindro was interim president, he, through the party's central committee had on May 16, 2017 removed the then party president on charge of misappropriation.

As his (O Jugindro's) order removing the then president was effected, L Krishnadas' order removing him (O Jugindro) should also be effected," Amutombi asserted adding all should abide by the party's constitution.

Alleging that the action taken against O Jugindro was in the interest of the people and party, Amutombi said that all should support the new office bearers for strengthening the party.

On the MPP's plans and strategy for the upcoming elections in 2022, its general secretary (administration), H Gitajen said the party will be holding a meeting on February 21 to strengthen it before the elections.
