All set for Puya Meithaba commemoration on Jan 22

The International Observation Committee on Puya Meithaba (ICOP), Kangleipak is all set to observe the 296th anniversary of Puya Meithaba (the burning of Meetei ancient scriptures) at Kanglaand Keinou Thongkha in Bishnupur district on January 22.Addressing a press conference today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen in Palace Compound, ICOP convenor M Naokhamba Meetei said that ICOP Kangleipak in collaboration with Laining Inat Kanba Lup (LAIKAL), Keinou, Lam Ahmgba Thougal Lup, Keinou and Apunba Meira Lup, Keinou will be observing the 296th anniversary of Puya Meithaba at Kangla and Lam Ahingba Lampak in Keinou Thongkha on the 23rd day of the Meetei lunar month of Wakching.
He elaborated that the observation will begin on January 22 with Puya Mikouba ceremony in front of Kangla Uttra at 7 am and it will be followed by the main event at 10.30 am and presentation of Shumang leela "Kangleipak ta 1709" at 1 pm.
"Prior to the main observance, a three days mourning will be conducted from January 20 to 22.The Salai Taret flag will be flown at half-mast and students will wear black badge, to condole the burning of Puya", he added.
Furthermore, Naokhamba Meetei announced that on the occasion, Chingmi-Tammi Nungsi Khudol Mana will be presented to Dr K Heera Kabui of Kabo Leikai, Imphal East district while Khangembam Chaoba Angom of Keinou Thongkha will be honoured with Maichou Ningsing Mana.
