EcoNetwork Manipur continues river cleanliness drive at Heirok-Wanging River

Thoubal, February 15 2026: EcoNetwork Manipur, in association with Palem Panthou Village Level Federation (VLF) of Heirok Part-I, continued its river cleanliness drive at the Heirok-Wangjing river in the Heirok Part-I area.

Speaking in connection with the drive, Shingthangamba Laishram stated that the river is currently in a deplorable condition due to the piling up of garbage disposed of by various households.

He said the accumulation of waste has made the water dirty and polluted, rendering it unsafe for domestic use and raising concerns about the spread of water-borne diseases.

He further informed that EcoNetwork Manipur, with support from the Palem Panthou VLF, comprising various Self Help Groups (SHGs), under the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission, undertook the initiative to clean the river and restore its condition.

Appealing to the public, he urged residents to extend their support to the ongoing drive, stating that the cleanliness campaign would continue in the days ahead.

He emphasised that protecting and preserving the river is a collective responsibility.

He also called upon the people to be more aware and refrain from dumping garbage into the river.

Instead, he urged households to dispose of waste properly at designated places and cooperate with door-to-door garbage collection services.

Dumping waste into the river, he said, is like polluting one's own water source and ultimately harming themselves.
