Kakching, September 14 2025:
Allegations circulating on some local media against MLA K Ranjit for allegedly misleading people over the construction work of the 27.4 km road stretch of IndoBurma Sugnu Road connecting Wabagai Lamkhai to Sugnu have been strongly refuted.
Thingnam Rishikesh, secretary of Kakching Khunou Development Committee, clarified that MLA K Ranjit never misled the public, but was simply fulfilling his duties as a people's representative for the welfare of his constituency.
Speaking at a press conference held at Kakching Khunou, Rishikesh stated that although blacktopping of the road till Chakpikarong was undertaken during 2011-2012, no further progress was made after that, especially following the arrival of the BJP Government in 2017 .
He explained that MLA Ranjit had consistently raised the demand for road construction in the State Assembly, which can be verified from Assembly records.
Since MLA Ranjit being an opposition MLA, even though the authorities neglected the road stretch which lies in his constituency, he repeatedly pressed the authority to construct the road from Wabagai to Waikhong under Hiyanglam constituency, but his efforts remain unheeded.
With the fall of the BJP's government, and the arrival of the President's Rule in the State, MLA Ranjit even submitted an application to the Governor on June 13, 2025, urging immediate construction of the road.
Subsequently, on July 3, the matter was conveyed to the Chief Secretary.
Following this, it was informed that under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Pt I, the road construction would be initiated with a project estimate of Rs 45 crore.
Rishikesh further questioned why some BJP leaders and workers, including the Sugnu Mandal president, appeared offended by MLA Ranjit's statement.
He asserted that the road project had been delayed for over seven years under the BJP Government and credited MLA Ranjit's persistent efforts for finally pushing the project forward.
He appealed to the people, especially the opposition workers to recognize the MLA's efforts, avoid spreading false information and refrain from making further statements that could tarnish his image.
