At the GBM.
Professor L Nabachandra said the lack of service rules for the State Agriculture Department has hindered the growth of the department.
Under the current rules, any bureaucrat who has zero knowledge of the subject can become the department's top officials, he said.
Many who have Master's and PhD degrees in the subject are employed as the lower cadres and they are unable to move up the ladder due to lack of dedicated service rules in the department, he said.
Fbr proper growth of the department and the sector, the department should be led by someone who has a background in the subject, he said, adding other States have such service rules.
The GBM elected Horticulture and Soil Conservation Director K Debadutta Sharma as president; Agriculture Department's retired Deputy Director Th Jayprakash and Agriculture and Soil Conservation Joint Director P Priyamo as vice presidents; and ICAR KVK Tamenglong's Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) Dr RK Roshan as general secretary.
