Joujangtek ambush victims in hospital care

Imphal, May 14 2026:
A couple who were injured in an ambush at Joujangtek last night are currently undergoing treatment at the Shija Hospital Imphal.
Olive Jatung (33) and his wife, Aroma Thanga (28), were brought to the hospital late last night.
They hail from Dollang village, Noney district.
The ambush, suspected to have been carried out by Kuki militants, killed one Wilson Thanga and injured the couple.
Wilson Thanga, the cousin of the injured man (Olive Jatung), was killed on the spot.
The three were travelling in a Bolero Jeep when they were fired upon at Joujangtek area under Khoupum police station, Noney district.
Olive Jatung was hit by projectiles in his abdomen, and was kept under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Shija Hospital.
A surgery to remove the projectiles was conducted this afternoon, and he is being kept under observation.
His wife, Aroma Thanga, who sustained bilateral injury (damage affecting both sides of the body) also underwent surgery this afternoon.
Her condition is said to be stable.
Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Wilson Thanga have been taken to Dollang village for last rites today after a postmortem was conducted at JNIMS Hospital.
The postmortem was conducted this afternoon under full video coverage of the proceedings in presence of a Magistrate.
Family members and locals claimed the body after an understanding was reached with the Chief Minister at his Bungalow.
Naga MLAs were present in the meeting.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh is learnt to have assured the family of appropriate actions according to law to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.
Khoupum police station has registered a case to investigate the incident.
