Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Imphal Nagar observed Patriots' Day at Nagamapal and the members paid their respect to the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, today.
The gathering also offered floral tributes to the portraits of the freedom fighters.
Speaking at the function, Thounaojam Bonbihari, Prant Sanyojak Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi of RSS, said that every indigenous community of Manipur should work together to take the State to greater heights.
He appealed to every Manipuri to take a pledge to make Manipur peaceful and work for the well being of the State on the occasion of the Patriots' Day.
Saying that the State has been observing Patriots' Day to remember the day on which Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General were publicly hanged at Pheidapung (Polo ground) in 1891, Bonbihari added that some other persons were also hanged on different dates for revolting British occupation while 23 others were exiled to Kalapani in Andaman & Nicobar Island.
