Maniruddin condoled

On behalf of the Government and the people of Manipur, Chief Minister Yumnam Khem-chand Singh has deeply condoled the passing of Dr Md Maniruddin Sheikh, former MLA of Lilong AC, who also served as the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, due to a prolonged illness.
The 83 year old was undergoing treatment at the ICU of Babina Hospital, Khabeisoi.
In a condolence message, the Chief Minister described the former Speaker as a respected leader and a dedicated public servant.
He worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people and contributed significantly to the development of the State.
His passing is a great loss to his family, supporters and the people of Manipur.
He will always be remembered for his leadership, service to society and leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment, said the Chief Minister's message.
It is worth noting that Dr Md Maniruddin Sheikh was elected to the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly (2002) on a Congress ticket from Lilong AC and became the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2005 .
He was born in 1943 at Lilong Yangbi Leikai.
He had a prestigious career in the health sector spanning over three decades and was also known as an educationist.
