Lamka, March 13, 2010: Cadets of Sainik School, Imphal who secured 85% (80% for schedule tribe and scheduled caste cadets) of mark or above in the entrance or annual exam will get free education as government has decided to bear 100 percent of the tuition fee and dietary charge for them.

Official source said that state government has revised rate of scholarship amount given to the cadets of the Sainik School, Imphal located at Pangei in Imphal east district.

Earlier, government used to provide 100% tuition fee and dietary charge only for those cadets who secured 90% of marks and above in the entrance and annual exam of the school.

The rate of tuition fees and dietary charges provided to the cadets according to percentage marks secured by them have also been revised, the source said adding the mode of revision of the scholarship was based on the proposal submitted by the principal of the school.

As per the latest revised scholarship rate, 70 percent of the tuition fee and dietary charge of the cadets who secured 75% to 84.99% (70% to 79.99% for ST/SC) will be borne by the state government.

The rate for the cadets securing 60% to 74.99% (55% to 69.99% for ST/SC) will be 60 percent while 50% of the tuition fee and dietary of cadets securing 50% to 59.99% (50% to 54% for ST/SC) will be borne by the state government.

The Sainik School, Imphal is among the 24 such schools in the country run by the respective state governments and Ministry of Defence with budgetary provision of government of India.

The Sainik Schools are a system of schools in India established by Sainik School Society, and conceived in 1961 by V..KKrishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India, to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the Officer cadre of the Indian Military, and to prepare students for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune and Indian Naval Academy.
