Financial literacy awareness programme held at Khangshim village

A one-day sensitisation programme on "Government Schemes, Initiatives and Financial Literacy of Weavers/Artisans and Entrepreneurs" was held today at Koshang Community Hall, Khangshim village in Tengnoupal district.
The programme was organised by the District Handlooms and Textiles, Tengnoupal District, under the sponsorship of Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Manipur.
Md Nazmul Huda Khan, SDO/BDM of Tengnoupal and Machi Block, attended the programme as chief guest.
Soibam Heramani Singh, Project Manager of District Handlooms and Textiles, Tengnoupal and Chandel, presided over the function; while Thokchom Basanta Singh, Deputy Director of Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles; Lameiching Jachi, Deputy Manager of SBI Kongsang; and A Santhel, a representative from the Weavers Service Centre, Ministry of Textiles, Imphal, attended as guests of honour.
As part of the event, the Tengnoupal Small Cluster Development Programme was also conducted, during which 131 weavers of Ragai Foundation Tengnoupal, were distributed looms under the National Handloom Development Programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Md Nazmul Huda Khan stated that the handloom and textile industry is a vital sector for development and noted its significant contribution during India's freedom struggle.
He said the sector not only provides sustainable livelihoods but also generates employment opportunities for many.
Emphasising the need to promote and strengthen the profession for a developed State and nation, he urged the Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles and financial institutions to extend necessary inputs and financial support to weavers and entrepreneurs.
He assured that the district administration would also extend all possible support.
Appealing for collective cooperation, he stressed that mutual support among stakeholders would help boost the local economy and pave the way for a progressive society.
