Fourth Catch Up series on menstrual hygiene conducted

The District Administration Senapati organised the fourth series of Catch Up on Menstrual Hygiene today at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati in continuation of the Catch Up series.
In today's series, Sheveine, MCS, Assistant Commissioner, Senapati briefed the gathering on the Catch Up series which is an initiative of District Administration, Senapati.
She also welcomed and applauded the gathering for their active participation in today's programme.
Highlighting the importance of menstrual cycle she stated that Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed every year on May 28 and under the theme 'Together for a Period Friendly World' for this year.
In the fourth Catch Up series, resource person Dr S Agui RK, District Nodal Officer, Adolescent Health Division, Senapati said that a woman's menstrual health is crucial to her well-being and to the well-being of her family and community.
She also said that menstrual hygiene continues to be amongst the most challenging issues today.
Stressing on the main reasons for menstrual hygiene taboo in Indian society, she pointed out the high rate of illiteracy especially among women, poverty and lack of awareness on menstrual health and hygiene.
Dr S Agui further presented data of girls and women using hygienic method of protection and lack of adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management in respect of Senapati district in comparison with the State and country.
The District Nodal Officer also brought up various schemes like Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS) by MoHFW in 2011 under RKSK (AHD) and Chief Minister's Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (CMMHS) which linked with School Fagathansi Mission have been launched to promote menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls.
Following this, Sheveine, and Dr S Agui RK, DNO, Adolescent Health Division, Senapati jointly distributed sanitary pads to all the girls attending the series.
The programme was attended by DLO's, schools teachers and students.
