Imphal, August 10 2026: The Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA) has urged the Government to take action against those allegedly involved in stealing ponies for meat.

Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club today, MHRPA secretary K Dhanachandra said that the emergence of pony theft for meat is disturbing.

The the disappearance of grazing grounds and the lack of shelter for ponies have been a threat to their survival.

He also said that the implementation of projects on more than 1,000 acres of land at Lamphel has led to a significant reduction in grazing grounds for ponies.

Saying that the Govt had provided 32 acres of land for the conservation of ponies, he added that the land, however, remains unusable due to a dispute.

He said they have submitted memorandums to the Governor, Chief Minister and Home Minister to take action against those responsible for the theft of ponies.
