Joykumar elected PDA president

Imphal, June 10 2026:
Former Deputy Chief Minister Yumanm Joykumar has been elected president of the People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) today.
With his election as the PDA's president, the National People's Party (NPP) Tera Lai which he earlier led has been dissolved.
With him, several executive members of the PDA were elected today for the term 2026-29.L Seth has been elected as the working president along with RK Rameshwar, Mahirang Raithing and Russel Heisnam as vice-presidents, and N Diten as treasurer.
Briefing reporters at the PDA office at Naoremthong, Yumnam Joykumar said the PDA's objective is to safeguard Manipur's integrity, bring peace and development.
The BJP-led Government which includes Members of the NPP has failed to curb violence and restore normalcy even after more than 3 years of the Manipur conflict, he said.
While the BJP-led Government has failed to bring about a solution, the crisis which the State is facing at present was bom during Congress' time.
The Congress' Government for decades failed to prevent incursion of illegal immigration from across Myanmar, he said.
To face the threats facing Manipur, the indigenous communities must unite.
A strong regional party that represents the interest of the indigenous people is highly needed, he said.
Joykumar further asserted that the PDA will play vital roles in protecting Manipur's integrity.
He said the steps are being taken up to change PDA to Indigenous People's Democratic Alliance (IPDA) .
For this, a committee has been formed and processes to amend the Constitution have been started, he added.
The party represents the indigenous people.
It will achieve a resounding victory in the upcoming elections, Joykumar said.
