Ukhrul District Entrepreneurs Association demands action against MANIDCO

The Ukhrul District Entrepreneurs Association (UDEA) has appealed to the Chief Secretary, Manipur 'to conduct an immediate spot enquiry for stringent action against the Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MANIDCO) for misappropriation of construction of the Incubation Centre, Ukhrul amounting to Rs 2.5 crores' .
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary Manipur, the president and the secretary of UDEA have alleged that the ongoing construction of Incubation Centre at Phungretang, Ukhrul under the Special Assistance to State for Capital Investment (SASCI) for the financial year 2025-2026 had been misappropriated by MANIDCO .
The association with reference to the Right to Information (RTI), revealed that MANIDCO, the empanelled implementing agency, had been entrusted with the construction of the centre at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
However, it has been found that the construction is not incorporated with approved specifications of detailed project report (DPR) and is undersized with subquality material components without technical supervision.
All works are below the quality of specifications in DPR, furnished by MANIDCO, alleged the letter.
It further said that the location of the Incubation Centre denoted by the Handloom Textile, Manipur through RTI is totally undesirable and misappropriation.
Therefore, in the interest Ukhrul District Entrepreneurs and also, in order to combat misappropriation of public funds, the UDEA urged the Chief Secretary to conduct immediate spot enquiry and show cause notice not under level of Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) and called for stringent action against the malefactors be enacted at the earliest.
Furthermore, it requested to refund the amount of Rs 2.5 crores or reconstruct the project under the supervision of the engineering cell of MANIDCO at a desirable location.
