Players' guardians urged to play key role in bolstering State's sporting legacy

Former Minister Thongam Biswajit has called upon guardians to further encourage their wards towards sports and help bolster State's sporting legacy.
He made the appeal during the closing ceremony of 1st State Level Late Thongam Iboyaima Singh Memorial Masters Hockey Championship and U-14 Boys and Girls Hockey Tournament 2025 at SEYO Astro Turf Hockey Stadium, Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai today.
The tournaments were organised by SEYO (South East Youth Organisation) .
Speaking at the event as chief guest, Biswajit said the Government of India has taken up and implemented many schemes such as Khelo India and Fit India campaign to encourage healthy lifestyle and develop sporting spirit among the people of all age groups.
Keeping in mind the fitness benefit and professional avenues sports offer, the guardians should not hesitate their children from taking up sports, he said.
Although small, the State continues to dominate the Indian sports scenario and has produced as many as 19 Olympians, he noted while acknowledging the contributions of State athletes in bringing laurels to the country and the State.
While exuding confidence that SEYO Astro Turf Hockey Stadium will serve as a key hub of promising players in the State, he also maintained that construction work of more galleries will be initiated very soon.
More sporting facilities will be brought up soon in consultation with sports enthusiasts, he continued.
The valedictory function of the tournaments was also attended by Olympian Ksh Thoiba, president SEYO as functional president; Gyanendro Ningombam, president North East Hockey Development Society; Padma Shri N Kunjarani, Commandant, CRPF Group Centre, Langjing and Olympian Laishram Sarita, SP (Sports) as guests of honour.
