Imphal, December 06:
Employees of the Imphal Municipal Council who have been on a cease work strike against failure of the IMC authority to pay their salaries for the last 23 months have been reportedly threatened to remove from their jobs.
On the other hand, consequent upon the cease work strike, pick up trucks loaded with garbage and solid wastes which are parked within the IMC complex have not been removed.
Speaking to reporters, representative of the JAC formed by the two employee unions' of the IMC L Indrajit disclosed that 99 Muster Roll and Contract employees under the IMC have been threatened by the IMC authority for joining the cease work strike.
Even as he has been working in the IMC for more than 20 years, he does not know his account number or his account balance, said Indrajit while alleging that the IMC authority has been refusing to provide balance sheets of the employees.
For the 403 employees of IMC, the total amount necessary for payment of monthly salaries is Rs 24.80 lakhs while the amount required to pay for salaries of the 27 councillors is Rs 3.24 lakhs and the necessary amount to pay for salaries of the 99 Muster Roll/contract employees is Rs 2.15 lakhs, detailed Indrajit.
The sick status of the IMC is largely due to irregularities and incompetency of the IMC authority, he alleged while claiming that even as the garbage picking work has been privatised, the employees are bearing increasing work load.
