Kangpokpi, October 06 2025:
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has announced a 48-hour economic blockade from midnight of October 7 to midnight of October 9 .
The economic blockade has been called following the expiry of a 48-hour ultimatum it served on October 4 in connection with the assault of Kamginlen Chongloi at Makhan Village near the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University on October 2, 2025, said CoTU .
The committee has stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs has failed to act decisively, reflecting what it described as a "blatant reluctance to ensure security preparedness" in the "buffer zones" .
It asserted that such "inaction" of the Ministry of Home Affairs gravely undermines the sense of safety and confidence among the Kuki-Zo populace residing in the region.
With the expiry of the ultimatum served on October 4, CoTU is compelled to enforce an economic blockade beginning midnight of October 7 and lasting until midnight of October 9, it said.
The committee demanded that the Government must "take concrete steps to rectify the security lapses in the buffer zones and ensure the safety of commuters travelling between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, particularly through the vulnerable stretches of Makhan and Leikhanpokpi villages" .
