Imphal, September 06 2025:
All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) on Saturday staged a sit-in protest against the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) report on the Manipur crisis and policies of the Indian Government.
The sit-in held in front Irawat Bhawan gate in Imphal was participated by leaders and members of AMNM.
Speaking to the media, AMNM vice president Lairenjam Sunitibala strongly criticised the report on the Manipur conflict, released last month by PUCL, calling it biased, incomplete and factually wrong.
She asserted that the report distorted the sequence of events leading to the outbreak of ethnic clashes and hostilities in May 2023, and promoted a one-sided narrative, completely ignoring the atrocities committed against the Meeties.
She alleged that the report was nothing but a clear attempt to sow discord among the communities and cause communal tension in the State.
She also reacted sharply to the Government of India's decision to extend the SoO agreement with the Kuki armed narco-terrorist groups and added that extending the SoO agreement despite the series of terrorist and criminal acts committed by these groups is a decision that runs completely against the interests of the people of Manipur.
In regard to the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur on September 13, Sunitibala asked why is the PM coming to Manipur now after ignoring the cries and pleas of the people of the State for more than two years.
"The PM has not visited Manipur even once since the clashes between the Meiteis and Kukis in the State began, leaving over 350 dead and more than 57,000 displaced", she added.
She asserted that the PM travelled extensively across the world and even visited Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in the last 2-3 years, but chose to ignore Manipur at a time when it was burning.
"The PM should take concrete steps to instill confidence among civil society groups and masses that Delhi is committed to ushering in peace in the State", said Sunitibala while expressing hope that the PM's visit will act as a balm on the wounds of the State.
