Imphal, March 06 2025:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the mysterious death of a person from Iroisemba whose body was found inside a burnt car at Lamboikhongnangkhong Awang Leirak (Lane 11) on March 1 has urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and reveal the cause of death.
Christened JAC Against the Unnatural Death of Thokchom Roben Singh, Iroisemba, the Committee warned that they will launch a series of intense protests if the authorities fail to provide a satisfactory explanation and deliver justice.
Notably, Thokchom (48), a resident of Iroisemba Maning Leikai and an employee of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), was found dead inside a burnt car, which the JAC claimed was unnatural, raising suspicions of foul play.
In this regard, a sit-in protest was staged at Iroishemba Maning Leikai today, demanding justice.
During the demonstration, the protesters held placards with inscriptions urging the authorities to question individuals who were with Roben on the day of the incident, reveal the truth behind his death and penalize those found guilty.
Speaking to the media, JAC convenor Irom Phulindro asked how Roben failed to escape when his car caught fire in a densely populated place.
He also asked why Roben's family wasn't informed about the fire in a timely manner, despite the incident occurring close to their home ? .
Saying that they are waiting for the post mortem result, he urged the authorities to thoroughly and expeditiously investigate the case.
