Tree plantation, cleanliness drives, eco-centric pledges mark World Environment 2025

Mamipur marked World Environment Day, 2025 today with a call to 'End Plastic Pollution' in the State.
THOUBAL
As part of the World Environment Day celebration, a cleanliness drive on the theme "Putting An End to Plastic Pollution" was held today at Nongpok Lourembam under Heirok Assembly constituency.
During the event, various tree saplings were planted at the surrounding areas of Nongpok Lourembam Laibung and at Maning Ching, led by the BJP Manipur Unit, president A Sharda Devi.
The plantation drive was also attended by BJP Manipur Pradesh, general secretaries Kekrebam Sharat, Langpoklakpam Deben, P Premananda Meitei; BJP Thoubal District president, Yumnam Kumarjit, BJP Heirok Mandal, president L Chourjit, Lourembam Zilla Parishad administrative committee, chairperson S Japan along with various members of Mahila Morcha.
Speaking at the event, A Sarda Devi stated the recent flooding across the State due to the rainfall for 2-3 three consecutive days is a sign that Manipur has also faced the brunt of global climate change.
She said that preserving ecological balance requires a collective effort, from individuals, communities and organisations to ensure the sustainability of natural resources and ecosystems.
Similar plantation drive was also held at 30 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs of Thoubal district in connection with the World Environment Day.
After the plantation drive the staff of health centres, ASHA and local volunteers deliberated on the impact of plastics to the environment and resolved to spread awareness to the public on reduction of plastic use.
As part of the World Environment Day a poster campaign on protection and preservation of environment was launched today at Nongpok Sekmai Shikhong Bazar organised by the NEEPC Thoubal on the theme "Save Environment, Save Nature, and Save Earth".
World Environment Day was also observed at Yaripok Bamol Leikai, Thoubal Kshetrileikai, Waithou Keithel, Wangjing, and Thoubal Wangmataba with activities like tree plantation, cleanliness drive and awareness programme to raise awareness on conservation of environment.
BISHNUPUR
In Bishnupur district, the Ithai Youth Club in collaboration with Ithai Nupimacha Association also marked the World Environment Day with a cleanliness drive at Ethai Barrage.
During the event, the members of the Ithai Youth Club and Ithai Nupimacha Association cleared the plastics and bottles that were clogged at Ithai Barrage.
Similar initiative was also held at Ibudhou Thangjing Laikon organised by the 1979 and 1980 Class X Batch of Moirang areas in connection with the World Environment Day.
As part of the cleanliness drive, around 100 tree saplings were also planted at the surrounding areas of Ibudhou Thangjing Laikon and Moirang College.
SENAPATI
Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram observed World Environment Day with a meaningful green initiative led by the Department of Zoology.
A total of 56 students and staff participated in the event held at the college campus.
As part of the celebration, the participants planted 40 fruit-bearing trees donated by teachers and staff of the college, reinforcing the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living.
The event was graced by the Rector Fr Davassy Palatty.
Vice-principals, Fr Shilanand Kerketta and Sr Cecelia Thaimei.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Senapati in association with Mustard Seed Foundation observed World Environment Day today on the theme 'Beat Plastic Pollution' during Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) at Thingbongjang village, Kangpokpi District.
About 100 saplings including fruit bearing trees were planted during the programme.
At Mao, the Office of the Song Song Youth and Students' Organisation (SSYSO) in collaboration with two other organisations organised a tree plantation drive along SSYSO Road, planting a total of 412 saplings.
The event saw active participation from 54 individuals, including community members, volunteers and security personnel.
The initiative aimed to promote environmental sustainability and collective action for a greener future.
Mao Students' Union (MSU) also observed World Environment Day at Chiisaru Multi-Purpose Hall under the global theme "Ending Global Plastic".
As part of the event around 1500 tree saplings were planted along the stretch from Tadubi to Maopundung, with active participation from local youth and students.
In connection with the World Environment Day, Asufii Christian Institute (ACI) under the initiative of its Eco-Club organised an "Indigenous Cherry Plantation Drive" from Kapengho, along the interstate road to Kidima, Nagaland, and extending to the ACI campus on the theme 'One Student, One Tree".
Similar programme was also held at Mount Everest College, Senapati organised by the Eco Club of the College in collaboration with Taphou Phyamai Youth & Students' Organisation, Senapati.
The event focused on the theme "Ending Plastic Pollution" featured a cleanliness drive at the college campus to raise awareness about environmental conservation and encourage eco-friendly habits among the community.
At Makhan, a Half Marathon was organised by the Makhan Students' Union (MSU) in collaboration with Mothers' International School, Lower Makhan in observance of World Environment Day under the theme "Healthy Planet, Healthy People" .
Covering a distance of 10 km, the race started from Makhan Football Ground towards 57th Mountain Red Shield Division, Leimakhong and culminated at the starting point It was participated in by more than 200 runners.
KANGPOKPI
Sophia Christian College marked World Environment Day today under the theme "Ending Plastic Globally" .
Sorei Raman, founder of the Sorshia Christian College, kicked off the event with a memory of the modest beginnings of the institution and a warm comment on the home environment that still promotes learning as well as spiritual development.
As part of the event, a tree plantation drive was held at college premises, where participants planted saplings as a gesture of hope and responsibility.
KAKCHING
In connection with the World Environment Day 2025, a tree plantation drive was held today at Keirak Makha Sanlam organised by the Keirak Gram Panchayat, Leimarenbi VLF Keirak Mayai Leikai, Thoungambi VLF, Thoujalbi VLF, Pandam VLF.
The plantation drive was also attended by Keirak Gram Panchayat, Pradhan Elangbam Santi Leima along with other members of the VLFs .
NONEY
The World Environment Day, 2025 was marked with great enthusiasm at the Multipurpose Hall of Longmai-3 Baptist Church, Noney District HQ, coinciding with the 7th Foundation Day of the Longmai Nature Club (LNC).
Organised by the Longmai Nature Club, the celebration brought together officials, community leaders, students and civil society organisations in a collective call for environmental protection.
Tree plantation drive, essay and painting competition on environmental themes were the main highlights of the event.
UKHRUL
Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) also observed World Environment today at Muirei Village, Ukhrul district with a tree plantation drive to promote environmental sustainability and raise awareness on the importance of preserving nature.
Alek Muivah, member secretary MASLSA, Kh Rojita Devi, OSD MASLSA, S Mangaleibi Devi, deputy member secretary, officers and staff of MASLSA took part in the plantation activities.
JIRIBAM
Jiribam district also marked World Environment Day with a call to "Beat Plastic Pollution" .
The event held at Jiribam Railway Station, Ningsingkhung Bio Diversity Park Jiribam was marked with eco-centric activities like cleanliness drives, tree plantation drives.
