Imphal, May 05 2026:
The Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of AMTUC and AMGEO has written to Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu to provide subsidy on air fares for flights operating to and from Imphal airport.
The JAC submitted a representation to the Union Civil Aviation Minister on May 4, 2026 highlighting the turbulence, widespread violence, its crippling impacts on the State's economy and restrictions on free movement.
Even though the Chief Minister claimed that the two National Highways connecting Imphal with other parts of the country are safe for public movement, the two highways are still inaccessible to a large section of people, particularly the Meitei community, it said.
With the National highways inaccessible to the Meitei community, the only option available to members of the community for travelling outside the State and back is by air which is very costly, it said.
The JAC then appealed to the Union Civil Aviation Minister to subsidise the air fares for flights operating to and from Imphal airport until the situation in Manipur gets back to normal.
The JAC has also written to the Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur to cancel/review the order issued by the General Administrative Department (GAD) on April 24, 2026 which declared all Saturdays except those falling on general holidays as working days for all offices, agencies, bodies and public sector undertakings under the Government of Manipur.
