Senapati, September 03 2024:
The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) and Mao Students' Union have strongly condemned the alleged physical assault of Loli Kaihrii (36) by personnel of the 16 Assam Rifles Battalion, Mao Post on the evening of September 2 .
Loli Kaihrii from Kalinamei Village serves as the Games and Sports Secretary of the Kalinamei Youth and Students' Organisation and as the Auditor of the Senapati District Truck Drivers Union.
In their respective press releases, both NSF and MSU said that as per ground reports, Loli Kaihrii was allegedly grabbed by the neck and kicked from behind by members of the Assam Rifles while the major in command of 16 AR reportedly threatened Kaihrii and fired three shots into the air, causing panic among the crowd who were present.
In their condemnation note, NSF said that the 16 Assam Rifles, who claim to be 'Friends of the Hill People,' have once again betrayed the trust of the Naga community.
Stating that this is not an isolated incident but part of a troubling pattern of abuse and intimidation that the Naga people have endured under the guise of law and order, the NSF demanded immediate and decisive action against the armed personnel involved in the "heinous act" .
Reiterating the call for repeal of AFSPA from Naga inhabited areas, NSF also reaffirmed their stand on non-cooperation with the armed forces.
Meanwhile, MSU has called for the perpetrators be identified and brought to justice.
It further urged the concerned authorities to take stringent measures to prevent such acts of violence and to uphold the dignity and rights of all citizens.
