Senapati, June 03 2024:
Irked by the frequent total shutdowns and blockades, the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has appealed to all parties concerned against unnecessarily hampering vehicular movement along National Highway 2 .
A statement, the student body released on Monday said blockade/shutdown has been imposed frequently for every minor reason, and this has caused hardship to the people who rely on the vital route for sustenance and daily business.
While the people understand and sympathize deeply with all victims of the ongoing conflict, it is imperative that the NH-2 is maintained as a safe zone for free flow of traffic.
The Highway is the lifeline for the region.
Movement of essential goods, services, and citizens must not be affected, said SDSA.
The student body said it has no objection to parties concerned imposing total shutdowns in their respective areas and jurisdictions.
However, any form of harassment or obstruction along NH-2 exacerbates the suffering of innocent people.
This must be halted immediately, it added.
If the harassments and unnecessary blockades continue, the SDSA, as per resolutions adopted in the 2nd Federal Assembly held at Nteiramphung (Tumnou-pokpi) Village on June 1, may be forced to take up countermeasures to protect the rights and safety of the citizens, it warned.
The district student body urged all stakeholders to consider the broader impact of their actions and work towards peaceful resolutions.
The wellbeing of the Senapati community and the uninterrupted flow of traffic on NH-2 must be prioritised above all else, it said.
SDSA remains committed to supporting and advocating for the rights and safety of the people, it said, adding it is anticipating a cooperative approach to resolve the issues, and expressed hope that all parties will act responsibly and considerately.
