Imphal, October 02 2010:
For the first time in Manipur, the State Government is to set up a hospital under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model where free treatments would be provided to women and expectant mothers who come from BPL families in Ukhrul district.
The hospital is to be set up under the National Rural Health Mission programme.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, an official source informed that among the programmes that the State Health Mission Society proposed for taking up this year, the Union Ministry of Health gave its approval to running a hospital under the PPP model.
The first ever hospital under PPP model in Manipur would be run by the State Government in collaboration with the Catholic Hospital and Research Centre, a private hospital at Ukhrul, the source informed.
In running the hospital, the State Government would be providing the monthly salary of some doctors and nurses.
Women and expectant mothers of the district who belong to BPL families can avail free medical check up at the hospital.
However, in case of operation during child birth, a sum of Rs 1000 and the cost of medicines would be charged from the patient's family, the source explained.
The source further informed that the proposed hospital would function round the clock and for conveniences of patients living in far flung areas the Govt would provide an ambulance apart from opening a helpline.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) is to be signed between the State Government and the private hospital in connection with setting up the first hospital under PPP model in the State, the source added.
