Van Mahotsav Week: Massive tree plantation drives held in Thoubal, Chandel

Tbl/Cdl, Jul 2: As part of the "Van Mahotsav Week" celebrations, the Forest Divisions of Thoubal and Chandel launched extensive tree plantation drives and organised tree plantation drives and innovative eco-friendly initiatives.
In Thoubal, the Forest Division organised a plantation drive along the Yairipok-Kasom Khullen road stretch, with saplings planted across a 1-km long stretch and also launched Tree Guards crafted from discarded plastic bottles, designed to collect and retain rainwater, aiding the young trees' growth.
The initiative was conducted under the theme "Plant Trees, Save Trees, Lend a Hand to Make Our Manipur Greener".
Dr L Jeeceelee while speaking during the event stated that the tree plantation drive was held along the 1km long stretch of Yaripok-Kasom Khullen as part of the Van Mahotsav week celebration.
She stated that the event which commenced from yesterday was also held at Kakching Range and will continue throughout the week across the Division.
The tree plantation drive was also attended by Range Officer Thoubal, Dineshchandra Salam, Sikhong Beat Officer H Surendro, Yairipok Beat Officer Kh Herojit, Mayai Keithel Beat Officer L Samananda and Other staff.
Meanwhile, in celebration of Van Mahotsav 2025, a massive tree plantation drive was held today at 8th MR Leikun organised by the Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel.
The event was graced by Dr N Munal Meitei, DFO/Chandel as chief guest, N Modhunimai Singh, CO 8th MR Leikun as president.
Over 250 individuals, including media personnel, forest staff, and jawans of 8th MR.planted more than 500 fruit-bearing tree saplings on the premises.
Speaking in this connection, Dr N Munal Meitei said that during the week-long celebration of Van Mahotsav, the Forest Division of Chandel plans to plant 1 lakh trees across 26 selected locations of the district.
In this regard, the Chandel Forest division has kept aside several varieties of trees including fruit bearing, decorative and flower-blooming species for the people.
He highlighted this years' theme 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' which symbolizes planting a tree in memory of one's mother serves a dual purpose: honoring the role of mothers in nurturing life and contributing to the health of the planet.
Trees are life-sustaining, and just like a mother, they provide sustenance, protection, and a future for the next generation.
"Through this initiative, participants can create a lasting memory, planting a tree as a living tribute to their mothers, while also addressing the pressing need for environmental preservation," said Dr Munal.
