Health Directorate releases flood related health advisory

Imphal, June 02 2024:
The Directorate of Health Services & National Health Mission, Manipur has issued an advisory for the cyclone Remal induced flood and landslides in the State.

Dos
Drink safe water only, boiled water is most preferable for drinking
Wash vegetables, fruits and raw materials prior to cooking with safe water
Keep food preparation area clean
Cook food thoroughly
Maintain hand hygiene/frequent washing of hands
All cases of diarrhoea, fever or any illness should seek immediate health care
If any clustering of cases is noticed, nearby health facility should be informed
For any injury, one dose of tetanus toxoid should be taken within 24 hrs
Temporary shelter area should be disinfected with bleaching powder and lime
Mosquito nets/repellent cream/coils should be used
Keep yourself warm and dry
Wash yourself with clean water after coming in contact with flood water
Don'ts
Eat food materials soaked in flood water
Take antibiotics or other medicines without consulting doctor
Contact with flood water unnecessarily
Touch eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
Overcrowding at temporary shelter
Open defecation
While the flood situation has improved, several parts of Imphal and other districts both in the hills and the valley were affected by cyclone Remal.
Thousands of houses were hit by the floods affecting more than one lakh people in the State.
