Imphal, September 01: In continuation of its inspection on the quality of the buildings of the schools and colleges in Manipur, DESAM today inspected construction of the buildings in DM College of Commerce and Arts.

The inspection of 13 different items of the building construction was conducted along with principal of DM College of Arts Dr Y Bhanu Devi and other teachers.

During the course of the inspection of the 13 items under construction for DM, it was detected that quality of the work in connection with construction of the visiting room of the girl hostel and the corner racks of the Type-II quarters of the staff college have not been taken care of though there was nothing questionable on the remaining other 11 items.

At the inspection of the construction work at DM College of Commerce which was conducted along with its principal Ng Brajakumar, it was detected that cracks have already started appearing on the ceiling of the ground floor of the boys' hostel of the college being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 60 lakhs.

Talking to mediapersons after the inspection, education secretary of DESAM A Thoithoi directed that necessary rectification work with regard to lack of quality control on construction of the visiting room of Girls Hostel and Type-II quarters of DM College of Arts as well as the Boys' Hostel of DM College of Commerce would be taken car of by the authorities concerned with-in a one's time.

Thoithoi further directed that contract works should be given up if the quality of the work could not be maintained.
