DC Thoubal takes stock of counting preparations

Thoubal, June 01 2024: District Election Officer (DEO) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Thoubal, Ahanthem Subhash Singh took stock of the preparations for counting of votes in the district ahead of the counting day which falls on June 4.The DC while addressing media persons at his office today in connection with the counting preparations in the district, informed that there will be traffic diversions along the National Highway-102 (Imphal-Moreh road).

The DC stated that the preparations for the counting of votes for General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha for Thoubal district is almost complete and expressed belief that it will be carried out efficiently.

Regarding the entry of media persons to the counting hall, the DC informed that only those media persons who have authorised letters from the Election Commission of India (ECI) will be allowed to enter the counting hall.

A media centre will be opened at the hall of Treasury Office Thoubal for the convenience of the media persons, he said.

The DC also informed that a mobile collection centre will be opened at Treasury Office Thoubal for candidates and counting agents.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Thoubal has issued a notification regarding road diversions and designated grounds and office complexes to be used as parking space on the counting day for counting personnel/agents of Thoubal district.

IPS in the notification informed that in order to facilitate free passage of the officials and sanitizing the area from Yairipok Lamkhai to Wangbal and for effective maintenance of law and order during the counting hours, the vehicles plying on National Highway-102 from Imphal to Pallel side and Pallel to Imphal side shall be diverted at Yairipok Lamkhai and Wangbal on NH-102 respectively with effect from 6 am till the counting is over on June 4, 2024.With regards to traffic diversion at Yairipok Lamkhai, it notified that vehicles coming from Imphal side will be diverted at IVR Nepra Charangpat road via IVR Wangbal For diversion at Arong Bridge, vehicles coming from Khangabok side will be diverted at IVR Nepra via Yairipok Lamkhai while for Wangbal, vehicles coming from Kakching side to be diverted at IVR Wangbal road via IVR Nepra Charangpat via Yairipok Lamkhai.

Regarding the parking site for counting staff, parking for vehicles of counting staff coming from Wangjing side will be at Athokpam Junior High School and Veterinary Office campus while the vehicles for counting staff coming from Thoubal side will be parked at areas in front of HDFC Bank and TATA Motors Thoubal premises.

In connection with parking for counting agents, security personnel etc, all vehicles coming from Kakching -Pallel side towards DC Office Thoubal to be parked at Khangabok Higher Secondary School and the public ground opposite SP Office Thoubal while all vehicles coming from Imphal side towards DC Office Thoubal will be parked at Thoubal Melaground and Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School ground.

Further it appealed to the general public to take alternate convenient routes accordingly to avoid traffic congestion and inconvenience and the public have been advised not to take roads close to the Thoubal DC Office complex for any emergencies on the counting day.
