Imphal, July 31 2025:
The Maharaja Bodhchandra College Teachers' Association (MBCTA) has refuted the allegations made by the MB College Students' Union (MBCSU) that the Principal and teachers of the college have rejected every proposal of the students to improve the college and address students' concerns.
Addressing a press conference today at the IQAC Room of MB College in Palace Compound, MBCTA president Dr Th Roben said that the Principal and teachers have not rejected any proposal of the MBCSU which were in the interest of the college and welfare of the students.
He alleged that the present situation stems from various over the top and unreasonable demands/ matters raised by the MCBSU.
"A budget of Rs 3,38,100 is allocated to the MCBSU for conducting its activities.
After deliberation between the teachers-in-charge, MBCTA and the Principal, funds for organising Freshers' Meet, Tow-Day Sports' Meet and Internal Study Tour have been sanctioned", he added.
"Apart from these, MBCSU demanded Rs 2,06,000 for organising external study tour; Rs 1,90,000 (Rs 36,000 has been sanctioned) for internal study tour; Rs 3,00,000 for repairing toilets; Rs 1,33,000 for debating competition and Rs 1,76,000 for Inter College Music & Cultural Competition", said Dr Th Roben while adding that these amounts can neither be sanctioned by the Principal nor the MBCTA.
He continued that as the requested funds were beyond the allocated budget of MCBSU, the Principal and MBCTA were compelled to reject these unreasonable proposals.
"Following the rejection of the unreasonable proposals, some students led by the general secretary of MBCSU disrupted/interfered with the normal functioning of the college.
They even resorted to harassing and threatening the college authorities", he alleged.
"Unable to bear the constant harassment, some teachers-in-charge (of the students union) have written to the Higher Education Department to relieve them from their duties", said Dr Th Roben.
