Imphal, January 31 2026:
The Manipur Loumi Lup has slammed the four-year delay in electing a new Board of Directors and office bearers for the Manipur Apex Cooperative Marketing Society Limited (MACMS), calling it a "clear violation" of Cooperative Act rules.
Citing the ongoing struggle of farmers to access essentials like urea, the Loumi Lup has called for immediate intervention from the relevant authorities to resolve the issue.
"A general body meeting (election) was scheduled for November 30, 2022, at Chingmeirong.
However, a notice from the Deputy Registrar postponed the election for one month, and no election has been held since, leaving the society without a newly elected body for over four years", said the Loumi Lup in a release.
The Loumi Lup asserted that running the society with an executive body and sixmonth extensions is a clear violation of the Cooperative Act's rules and regulations.
The Lup urged the authorities concerned to act swiftly to remove the current executive body and convene a general body meeting, overseen by the State Registrar of Cooperative Societies, to facilitate the election of new office bearers.
The Lup also demanded the presentation of the society's authentic land records (patta) at the general body meeting.
"MACMS is a lifeline for farmers across hills and' valley, but its crippled state is pushing them to the edge", the Lup stated, highlighting the struggle to access basics like urea, with farmers forced to endure long queues at district agriculture offices.
The Manipur Loumi Lup further asserted that a smoothly-run MACMS can be a game-changer for rural areas, bringing much-needed relief to farmers.
