Locals of Wangkhei Heinoubon area today stormed the residence of a 48 year old man who allegedly fired three rounds using his .12 bore licensed gun towards demonstrators demanding conversion of three Bills into Acts.
Speaking to media persons, one of the womenfolk of the area stated that locals of Wangkhei Heinoubon and its surrounding area had imposed a bandh along the road as part of the pro-ILP agitation.
Today at around 1 pm, a man identified as Longjam Amar (48) s/o (L) Kokarchand of Kongba Uchekon bazar came in a white coloured Maruti Zen from Kongba side towards Heinoubon Leikai.
As the protesters stopped him and asked him to turn back , he took a U-turn.
However, he stopped his vehicle all of a sudden and opened three rounds from his .12 bore licensed gun towards the protesters from his car and fled from the spot, she said.
As the locals knew the identity of the man, angry locals chased Amar up to his home even as he hid somewhere, the woman said.
The angry locals then stormed the house and partially dismantled some properties.
The situation was put under control with the timely arrival of OC of Irilbung PS and other police personnel of Imphal East district.
The angry locals have demanded an apology from the man for his act.
