The mobile team of the Electricity Department, Churachandpur division today take off and confiscated more than fifty electric heaters in a surprise check at Vengnuam area, New Lamka.
The department had initiated the measure from about a week ago as the existing power supply to the town could not cope with the surplus power consumed when heaters are used.
Department sources said that they have now confiscated about 100 �unauthorized heaters� from various localities in the town since the drive began.
About 30 heaters were confiscated from Zenhang Lamka yesterday, it said.
Checking of unauthorized subscribers also continued unabated, it added.
It also said that power situation has improved a lot after the new measures were initiated.
It may be mentioned that the power situation in the town is so bad that most of the electricity-dependent private enterprises are running on huge losses as an average of eight hours of electricity is being given out in a day.
There have also been numerous complaints on unscheduled load sheddings and unexplained black outs.
The department have no longer bothered to made public announcement on load shedding schedules as it is unable to follow them, a source added.
Vengnuam phones dead: Many telephones around Vengnuam, New Lamka went dead since this morning when a telephone pole near Vengnuam EBC Church, New Lamka was hit by a truck.
The pole fell on the ground and the department is also unaware of the incident till this evening as no one complaint to it.
