Imphal, June 28 2025:
The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has stated that the repeated harassment and intimidation of people traveling on the Imphal-Ukhrul road by Kuki miscreants despite the fact that Meiteis are not using the route is an affront to a specific community.
The Federation, in a statement signed by its vice president Dr K Heera Kabui, emphasized that the June 26 incident at Mongkot Chepu village, in which Kuki miscreants attacked both a driver and a female passenger of a Ukhrul-bound vehicle, was not the first instance of Kuki aggression against Tangkhul people.
Condemning the attack, the FoH maintained that a key member of the Tangkhul Village Authority was also brutally assaulted by Kuki miscreants at Litan some time ago.
Stating that most of the areas where the Kukis reside are Tangkhul lands, and they were permitted to settle there on humanitarian grounds, the Federation maintained that Tangkhul people have also shown forgiveness toward Kuki miscreants for their past actions, including checking passenger vehicles, intimidating individuals, and even assaulting people along the Imphal-Ukhrul road.
The FoH continued that Kuki miscreants repeatedly harassing Tangkhul people despite the fact that Meeteis are not using the Imphal-Ukhrul road is an insult to a specific community.
The Federation, endorsing the actions of Katho Katamnao Long and Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association regarding the Mongkot Chepu incident, demanded that the miscreants involved in the assault be penalized according to the law apart from resolving the issue as per customary law.
The Katho Katamnao Long and the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association had yesterday demanded that the Kuki miscreants involved in the assault be handed over to them within 24 hours, warning of "serious consequences" if the demand is not met, including a ban on Kuki people traveling on the Imphal-Ukhrul road and entering Ukhrul.
