Ukhrul DC launches 'Unlocking the Ukhrul Model' at Hungpung village

In a bid to accelerate grassroots development across the district, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Asish Das, on Thursday launched the ambitious developmental initiative titled "Unlocking the Ukhrul Model" at Hungpung village, Ukhrul.
As part of the launch, the DC inaugurated the intervillage road shingling work spanning approximately 2 km, taken up under the MGNREGA work programme.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the challenges faced by rural communities due to inaccessible roads and expressed his commitment to addressing these issues effectively.
He noted that upon assuming office, he became aware of the hardships faced by people across Ukhrul and felt compelled to develop a practical model to resolve them.
The DC conceived the idea of Unlocking the Ukhrul Model as an immediate measure to empower villages by optimally utilising local resources.
He emphasised that unlocking the Ukhrul model is a unique approach to tap the potential of each village, encouraging them to identify their development needs and chart a roadmap for sustainable progress.
Highlighting recent achievements, the DC informed that the district has already generated 285 km of inter-village road work under the programme.
He urged headmen, chairmen, and village leaders to report areas vulnerable to landslides or those affected by recent incidents to the SDO office to ensure timely intervention.
The DC also appreciated the dedication of job card holders of Hungpung village, whose efforts played a key role in completing the shingling of the Roshantang inter-village road -a 2 km stretch costing Rs 19 lakh under MGNREGA, covering both labour and material components.
He expressed confidence in the people of Ukhrul, acknowledging their strong desire for development and their active participation in the district's progress.
The event was attended by SDO Ukhrul, Dinringam Kamei, staff and job card holders of Hungpung village.
